About Rebecca

Rebecca MarshallRebecca Marshall
Contemporary & Senior Modern Theatre Teacher

Rebecca started dancing in Whanganui at age 4. Her training included RAD Ballet Graded and Vocational exams, ISTD Modern Theatre and the ISTD Jazz Awards. At Whanganui High School she received Distinctions in Dance, and the Principal’s Cup for Contribution to Dance.

In 2004, Rebecca was accepted into Unitec in Auckland to study Contemporary Dance. After a year of full time dance training, working with dancers & choreographers such as Michael Parmenter & Malia Johnston she decided to follow a teaching career and share her passion for dance with others. Starting a family in 2005 gave her the opportunity as a new mum to create and teach a postnatal Pilates class which opened up new pathways in the fitness industry, leading to her becoming a qualified Les Mills group fitness instructor. During this time she was also choreographing and performing for an impersonations company that involved travelling all over NZ.

Rebecca started the Certificate of Ballet Teaching studies in 2008 which involved 2 years of correspondence study and training with tutors Sue Nicholls and Julia Barry and a teaching placement at L’Academie de Danse in Mairangi Bay, Auckland. During this time she was still performing part time, relieving at the Performing Arts School of New Zealand, teaching BodyBalance in two Auckland gyms and was a DJ for her partner’s entertainment business.

Rebecca was in a car accident in 2010 and suffered a neck injury that stopped her dancing for 7 months. As she recovered she started and managed the ballet department for a new dance school in Whangaparaoa, before moving back to Wanganui to be closer to family in 2011. Rebecca and her partner have three boys.

Rebecca now uses her qualifications and experience of the fitness and dance industries to help her dancers become strong and flexible with a reduced risk of injury so they can pursue a long successful career in dance. Rebecca hopes to inspire young dancers to be happy and healthy as they work toward achieving their dreams.
